The Improve Partnership
• Improve is one of a network of 25 Sector Skills Councils tasked with driving up the skills of the UK workforce.

• Since its licensing in 2004, Improve has formed an effective partnership with FDSS and this has meant that the local industry has had a national voice in training affairs related to the Agri-food sector.

• FDSS and Improve share directors and expertise as required. Furthermore the Business Development Manager of FDSS, Geoff Lamb, also represents Improve as Operations Manager for Northern Ireland.

• Through the Sector Skills Agreement Process, which involved employers and all other stakeholders, 8 different areas for action have been distilled. These are as follows:

1. Careers development – ensuring we have a smart food and drink sector
2. Promoting Productivity – ensuring a competitive and sustainable sector
3. Flexible Qualifications
4. Training, Learning and Development
5. Information, Advice and Guidance
6. Skills as a Strategic Business Driver
7. A Future in Food – ensuring that potential employees are aware of the sector’s potential
8. Networking for Success
